Dr. Wayne Baker has found that most people are willing to help, and most people don’t ask for what they need. This may be because we believe that others can help us, or it will make us appear weak. Wayne is a professor at the University of Michigan and the author of All You Have To Do Is Ask. Kevin and Wayne discuss the importance of asking both personally and professionally. Research shows that when we can ask for help, we are less frustrated at work (or home). We can find opportunities and talent. Further, it can make our teams more successful. He shares a four-step process of asking, starting with what is your goal? Leaders should be a chief help seeker and by working to change behaviors you can change your culture. He also shares thoughts on asking in communicating in a remote world.
In this episode, Wayne discusses 1. The reciprocity ring. 2. The law of giving and receiving. 3. SMART criteria.
